Dr. Martin Iffert, born 1966, studied electrical engineering at the RWTH Aachen University. After graduating with success, he began his career as a trainee with TRIMET ALUMINIUM AG in October 1994. Subsequently, he was put in charge of the Cathode Repair department in the aluminium works in Essen. In 1997 to 98, Dr. Iffert took over as project manager in charge of expanding the electrolysis capacity by 50,000 tons. After the successful completion of this project, he was appointed head of the furnace operation.

Between 2003 and 2006, after TRIMET's conversion to a joint stock company, Dr. Iffert was Head of the Electrolysis department before being appointed to the Divisional Board of Management of TRIMET ALUMINIUM AG. In this function, he was responsible for the TRIMET smelting works in Essen and Hamburg. The organisation and recommissioning of the Hamburg aluminium smelter in 2007 is one of Iffert's special contributions.

Dr. Iffert has published a number of technical papers which he has presented at international conferences. In the last few years, he has conducted research at the University of South Wales in Sydney and received his doctorate there with a thesis on "Aluminium Smelting Cell Control and Optimisation." In addition to his current activities, he has completed MBA studies at the IMD Business School in Lausanne, Switzerland. Since 1 November 2011, Dr. Iffert has been the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of TRIMET ALUMINIUM AG.
